Social Networks And Being Lonely

September 8, 2013

Loss of Community, Social Media

Is there is a connection between social networks and being lonely?

In a world where we collect friends like stamps, this video tries to make some sense for our social networks.

The Innovation of Loneliness from Shimi Cohen on Vimeo.

Inspired and Based on the wonderful book by Sherry Turkle – Alone Together. Also Based on Dr. Yair Amichai-Hamburgers hebrew article – The Invention of Being Lonely.

Script, Design & Animation:  Shimi Cohen

This is a refreshing presentation. Being one of the least social network guys (I guees it is also because of my age!), I am far too often guilty of sending a text message or an email instead of picking up the phone. This is a must view by teens, young adults and older ones also. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Wow, John so very true. I can see it coming that way. Even though I’m usually lets say a solitaire men, that’s because I chose my friends wisely and for me is about quality than quantity! I see peoples face book pages with 200 friends and even more and I wonder, hmmm in a time of a true need of friendship how many will get back to you. Things are changing and with that is also the true connection with people… Thanks for this…
